What’s in this template

This Google Sheets wedding budget has a category-based layout. Each category (Venue, Catering, Photography, etc.) has a header with line items below. Columns for Budget, Estimate, Actual, Deposit, Balance. Summary formulas at the top calculate totals and remaining budget.

Tab structure

Main tab: All categories and line items. Optional Summary tab: Dashboard with total budget, spent, remaining, and a pie chart or bar chart by category. Helps visualize where money goes.

Formulas included

SUM formulas: Each category sums its line items. Grand total sums all categories. Remaining = Budget - Actual. Percentage = Actual/Budget. Update ranges if you add rows.

Key features and use cases

Avoid hidden costs: U.S. weddings have many small costs — marriage license, tips, alterations, overtime. The template prompts you to think through categories. Add line items as you discover them. Better to plan than be surprised.

Share with partner: Both of you see the same numbers. No ‘I thought we had more’ disagreements. Update together. Transparency reduces stress.

Vendor comparison: Use the Estimate column for quotes. Add multiple line items (Vendor A, Vendor B) under a category. Compare before you commit. Delete the options you don’t choose.

How to customize

Payment schedule view: Add a “Due Date” column. Sort by due date to see what’s coming up. Filter to “Balance > 0” to see unpaid items. Helps with cash flow planning.

Actual vs. estimate analysis: After the wedding, compare Actual to Estimate. Note where you were over or under. Useful for future reference or for sharing with friends who are planning.

Currency or multiple contributions: If using multiple funding sources (you, parents, etc.), add a “Source” column. Or use a separate “Contributions” section at the top showing who contributed what.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really free?

Yes. Make a copy and it's yours. No signup, no trial, no watermark. You need a free Google account.

How much should I budget per category?

National averages (U.S.) roughly: Venue/catering 50%, Photography 10–15%, Flowers 8–10%, Music 8–10%, Attire 8–10%,rest miscellaneous. Allocate based on your priorities — splurge where it matters, cut elsewhere.

What about tips and gratuities?

Add a 'Gratuities' category or line item. Budget 15–20% for caterers, $50–200 for photographers/videographers, drivers, etc. Often forgotten until the last minute.

Can I share this with my partner or parents?

Yes. Share the sheet and give Editor access. Both of you can log expenses. Parents contributing can have Viewer access to see the budget without editing. Use Comments for questions.

What if a vendor costs more than estimated?

Update the Actual. If you're over in one category, reduce another to stay within total budget. The template shows you where you have flexibility. Or increase total budget if you're able — just do it consciously.

Should I track honeymoon separately?

Your choice. Many couples keep wedding and honeymoon budgets separate. Add a 'Honeymoon' category if you want everything in one place, or maintain a separate sheet for travel.
